Our Story

The first Poker Throw Down ™ (PTD™) took place in a sleepy little town back in 2009, and we knew it was a special model when dozens of VIPs, poker pros, celebrities, media, and 300 amateur players made the long trek to Reno. Since then, the PTD™ has grown exponentially, nearly doubling in size each year, and becoming the nation’s largest ever team poker competition. The PTD™ is a favorite charity poker tournament of poker pros, Hollywood film and TV actors, Action Sports and Olympic athletes, agents, gaming industry VIPs, theater and comic talent, and of course, poker, gaming, and mainstream media. We may have taken a haitus, but the PTD™ is now back, better than ever, and we're excited to announce it’s Las Vegas debut this fall at the Golden Nugget.
Founded in 2009, the PTD™ is a fast-paced, fiercely competitive no-limit Texas hold'em re-buy poker tournament designed for teams, leagues, and everyday poker players. The PTD™ combines a five-player team format with one that allows for individual participation, and raises the stakes by assigning each team with a celebrity or pro “Captain.” Suddenly, it’s “Game on!,” as they battle it out against other teams in search of the coveted PTD™ Championship trophy. Combine that spirit with side action, bounties, and "beats," such as "Cracked Aces," and "Last Woman Standing,” and it’s no wonder the PTD™ has fast become a favorite with players, fans, as well as poker, gaming, and mainstream media. The two tier prize pool rewards players by using a typical tournament payout system for top individual finishers, and a points system that determines the winning team. The PTD™ is anything but a grind, as the level, blind, and points structure was carefully developed for entertainment purposes by TDA Founder Matt Savage and former WPT Satellite Coordinator Lisa Amador, ensuring the tournament portion of the event is wrapped-up in a few hours. Proceeds benefit carefully vetted and deserving charities within the state of Nevada.
